Bresee Foundation

Los Angeles, CA
Executive Director: Seth Eklund
Co-investor: Weingart Foundation

The Bresee Foundation inspires young people to pursue education, achieve their full potential, and serve others through comprehensive after-school programs and family services.

The Bresee Academy for Middle School (BAM) provides academic support along with opportunities in the arts, sports and community service. Many of its students face homelessness, family substance abuse, violence, extreme poverty, and gang involvement. Fifteen percent are unaccompanied immigrant children recently arrived from Central America; many have mental health and academic challenges. Students attend five days per week, and receive homework help for at least one hour each school day. Bresee also offers wraparound family assistance and case management.
