Teen Success, Inc.

Milpitas, CA
Executive Director: Karin Kelley-Torregroza
Co-investor: Sobrato Family Foundation

Teen Success, Inc. breaks the cycle of intergenerational poverty by helping teen mothers graduate from high school, pursue post-secondary education, delay additional childbearing, and get on a path to long-term self-sufficiency and well-being.

First-time teen mothers meet weekly in small groups. Trained facilitators create a culture of high expectations and trusting, supportive relationships that guide teen moms in making positive choices, developing goals, and learning skills that support their growth and success as well as their childrens’. The program is effective: 97 percent of participants maintain family size, compared to a national average of 82 percent; and 92 percent graduate high school or are on track to graduate, compared to a national average of 40 percent.
